Panasonic PTAE8000U 1080p Full HD Projector 2012 Model: Excellent Home Theater Projector

I bought my Panasonic PTAE8000U 1080p Full HD Projector the day it became available. It's almost a $1500.00 cheaper now. I have 4821 hours on the lamp and just today it alerted me that the lamp needed to be replaced. Aside from a few select features I'll happily stay at home to enjoy movies now!

The Panasonic PTAE8000U  specs speak for themselves on this projector and for the price there's isn't as feature packed a projector (that's whisper quiet). In terms of picture quality, everything is better - brightness, contrast, and clarity. It is actually bright enough that in a reasonably light controlled setting, you could run in ECO mode and be perfectly happy.
  • 2400 Lumens of Brightness
  • 1080p (1920 x 1080) Resolution
  • Full-HD-Optimized Lens
  • 480 Hz Processing Capability
  • 2x Optical Power Zoom
As this Panasonic PTAE8000U 1080p projector is my first projector it is hard for me to judge if it is better than the competition or previous models in the same brand. I have the luxury of having a deeply immersive, amazing movie experience on any given night. DVDs I've had for 10 years are a revelation - as in, "I was missing out on this all this time?" - in proper Cinemascope on a 90+" diagonal image.

Over whole, I'm pretty happy with the projector's performance. I used a 50 feet long HDMI cable to connect from my Yamaha home theater to the projector and it has been working great so far. There's something about staring at reflected light from a good projector, vs a TV, that totally changes the viewing experience.

With light coming in the room from windows you can still see the image but the contrast and colors are very much compromised. I found that with the default picture mode cinema-2 with its high contrast and high color saturation was the one I like the most to view most of my blu rays and DVD's but I'm going to try to find on line some settings to try to improve the image quality.

It's whisper quiet on Eco. I tried a few projectors before this one, and was discouraged by that PC fan jet-engine sound. This Panasonic PTAE8000U 1080p Full HD Projector 2012 Model product earned 34 customer reviews and 88% are satisfied (as 26/02/2014). This projector is mounted a few feet directly overhead and we notice almost no sound at all.
